How to Make Premium Coconut Charcoal Briquettes

At Niaga Indoraya Semesta we provide coconut charcoal briquettes. Our briquettes are made only from high quality coconut shell charcoal with low ash content and high carbon content.

Our coconut charcoal briquettes provide longer burning time up to 2 hours, higher heat output and easier cleaning due to less ash generated during combustion. Our coconut charcoal briquettes are also durable due to the high pressure process used in production and proper monitoring of the drying process. Thanks to the high pressure production process and the careful drying monitoring used, our coconut charcoal briquettes do not crack or break easily even after a few drops, due to the low volatile matter content in the briquettes, no smoke, odor or sparks are produced when used making it the healthiest and cleanest form of charcoal to date. Strict quality control measures are implemented at all stages of production to ensure we consistently produce high quality coconut charcoal briquettes and deliver to our clients. The following is the process steps we take to produce premium coconut charcoal briquettes.

Coconut Shell Selection and Cleaning

Before getting into the manufacturing process, it is important to choose the best coconut shell. To ensure that our charcoal production is of the desired quality, we only use coconut shells from fresh, fully ripened coconuts from some of the best plantations in Indonesia.

We inspect the coconut shells thoroughly and clean them manually before undergoing the carbonization process. We store coconut shells in dry conditions protected away from high temperatures and rain to maintain optimal quality of our coconut shells. It is very important to ensure that the shell retains its quality and characteristics throughout the entire production process.

Manufacturing Coconut Shell Charcoal

After selecting the best quality coconut shell charcoal, now entering the stage of the production process. In our opinion, the quality of the coconut shell charcoal used in the production of briquettes is a key determinant of the quality of the finished product.

We produce our own coconut charcoal briquettes from carefully selected coconut shells using a proprietary carbonization process which results in a high fixed carbon content of around 80%, low volatile matter below 15% and an ash content of 2.5%. In addition, we do not use water during the cooling process.

Charcoal Crushing, Sieving, and Mixing

After the carbonization process is complete, coconut shell charcoal is carefully crushed and sieved thoroughly to remove residual ash so that the resulting ash content in the briquettes is kept below 2.5%. Then, it becomes a powder with a fine consistency.

Our briquettes are made from 100% natural coconut shell charcoal. No wood charcoal, nitrates, sawdust, borax, lime or other substances are added to the mix. Some additives allow briquettes to burn very quickly which can lead to shorter burning times and high fire risks and health hazards under certain circumstances. Because our briquettes are 100% natural, they don’t emit any harmful smoke or odors when burned.

Pressing and Shaping Coconut Charcoal Briquette

The next process is coconut shell powder evenly coated with binder and water, the mixture is fed into the briquette pressing machine and manually sliced with high precision to produce individual briquettes in the desired shape depending on the client’s requirements.

Drying and Packaging

The final process is drying the briquettes until they reach a humidity level below 5%. Large scale briquettes are heated in an industrial oven at around 80 degrees Celsius. The low water content helps the briquettes burn faster and burn completely when used. Close monitoring of the drying process is carried out to ensure that no cracks form in the briquettes. Finally, the briquettes are naturally cooled to room temperature before being packaged.

Coconut charcoal briquettes are packaged based on the preferences of each client. Some only need 1 kg inner plastic packaging before being put into 10 kg, 20 kg or 30 kg master cartons. While others require colored inner cardboard boxes with an inner plastic liner to hold the desired weight of the briquettes before being loaded into master cartons and collectively loaded into shipping containers.
